On the 13th December we host our first ever Christmas party taking place on our own doorstep in sunny Southsea in the cosy setting of The Cellars, one of Southsea/Portsmouth’s finest venues. We’ve curated a line up of some of our favourite acts across the south with a few familiar faces representing our little record label too. The line up includes Rickyfitts, Dead Rabbits, Wyldest, Curxes, The Boy I Used to Be, Fever, ELEPHANTANTRUM, Nevermind Me, Death of the Author, Bittertown Mary’s and Verlezt as well as Champagne Justice DJ’s playing an eclectic array of party gems throughout the day and night. The day kicks off from 13.00pm and finishes at 00.00am.

There’s no actual fee for the event. Rather than money we ask for a donation of non perishable food that will be donated to local food banks. From a tin of beans or packet of pasta to a bag full of groceries (or even  a trolley maybe?!) it all helps and together we can all help those who are in need during the Christmas holidays whilst also having a blast watching some of the south’s finest up and coming acts. We shall have an actual poster very soon but in the mean time more details can be found on the Facebook event here. You can also check some of the acts above in our party playlist. With ten plus rad bands and DJ’s for no actual fee we think it’s fair to say the all day party is pretty great value. See you on the 13th December.

Next week from the 24th - 26th October ‘Indietro Festival’ takes place in Brighton which also features a few of our label family. Our very own Arrows of Love headline the Friday evening from 01.15 AM. As well as Arrows of Love, our ever so marvellous doom grungers Gang play on the Friday at 16.15 PM. The next day being the 25th October looks just as great with Yoofs playing at the time of 16.45 PM. The rest of the line up includes our Gland Rock headliners being the legendary Creation Records outfit The Telescopes as well as Witching Waves who played our first ever Gland Rock show and also The Black Tambourines who killed it at our Southsea Fest stage last year. There’s also countless others on the bill worth checking out. More details can be found here regarding tickets as it looks to be a pretty insane show.

Tomorrow evening being Friday 17th October, Gang head to one of our favourite new venues being Bleach where they support Demob Happy. Looks to be a rather splendid show so if you’re Brighton way tomorrow evening head down to London Road and catch the guys. It’s £3.00 in advance or £4.00 on the door. That extra pound can of course go towards booze so what are you waiting for? Tickets can be found here.

Shows, gigs, events, whatever you want to call them, they’re great right? Over the next couple of weeks some of our lovely label family lot shall be playing them across various parts of the U.K and you defiantly do not want to miss out if you’re in any of these towns, trust us. To start off, chaotic grunge/punk outfit Arrows of Love support the legendary Buzzcocks, yes THE Buzzcocks and that is this Saturday coming being the 11th October and is taking place at The Forum. That seriously looks to be a crazy great show and we’re incredibly stoked for the lovely AOL guys for getting such a heavy support slot. Also this Saturday, Southampton’s shoegaze/psychedelia quintet Dead Rabbits head to Manchester for ‘Psychotic Reaction’ at Gullivers. Before these shows though, this Friday sludge duo Rickyfitts return to their home town of Southsea after tearing up Southsea Fest and getting much deserved praise from press where they tore the house down not just once but twice. They headline at The Loft with support from Bittertown Mary’s who are playing our X-mas show also and new grunge outfit Freak. Our very own melodic doom grunge-pop trio Gang head to one of our favourite new venues, Bleach in Brighton on the 17th October supporting Demob Happy and The Boy I Used to Be on the 25th October has been confirmed to support Jaws at The Clarence Tavern in Gosport and Yoofs on the same day play the incredible looking Indietro Secret Festival The Haunt with the likes of Best Friends and Black Melon.

So if you’re out and about on any of these dates and in the area, do head down to see some of our label family and extended family as they’re all marvellous. We’re probably being biased but we wouldn’t lie to you either. We’ll also have more information regarding our X-mas charity party soon where entry is a donation of non perishable food which shall be donated to food banks.

Kagoule

Here’s some incredible photos of our stage featuring Blessa, Kagoule, Wyldest & FURS taken by the incredible Neil Anderson over at Wild Blanket. You can find more of his work here including more Southsea Fest pictures of our stage and also features many shows from label family Arrows of Love and Gang as well as many, many more. Check it out here. A big thank you to Neil for enduring the heat and coming to our stage a fair few times for what was an incredible line up overall, so much appreciated.

We’ll also have photos soon from our side by Strong Island Media.

So Southsea Fest was killer- insanely sweaty, very messy and all the bands were incredible and also lovely folk too which made the day so much better and easier to run. We’re just about recovering and we’ll have photos soon but one of the heaviest and gnarliest sets came from our very own Gang who brought the house down at Bar 56. After annihilating our stage on Saturday. they head to The Haunt this evening in Brighton for this rad show supporting the top guys Traams who killed it at our charity fest Gland Rock and Sheffield’s Best Friends. It’s going to be insane so if anybody is Brighton way tonight and had other plans, change them now and get to The Haunt.

We’re stoked to announce that we have our first batch of Strong Island Recordings branded label t-shirts that will be available to purchase from us this Saturday at our stage at Southsea Fest, upstairs of Bar 56/Al-Burrito. They’re just £10 so if you can afford to get one and help rep our little label, you will get high fives from us forever.  Above is a little sneak peak of our tees but if you’re at Southsea Fest you can see them in person. They will also be available to purchase online in the not so distant future too in the event you’re not Southsea way on Saturday but you would still like to purchase one.
